Sam is a manic-depressive computer geek who has been thinking about social reform for a number of years. After being depressed and anti-social for about a year, he bought some Paul VanDyk CDs and got proper email access again, and started to cheer up a bit. He went to a party at a friend's house in Melbourne, Australia, got moderately non-sober and stayed up all night writing a computer game called `Rocks' for the girl whose birthday it was. You can get Rocks from http://rocks.sourceforge.net/

Next day, Sam went home (he lives with his family in Healesville) and had an idea on the bus (he doesn't have a car). He was feeling a little manic, and this idea seemed to be really good. It was just this: we can use little Cards to communicate our needs and abilities.

Sam posted the idea to the Melbourne LinuxChix group (http://linuxchix.org/) of which he is a member (!), the 17group and the 225q mailing list. The idea was quite well received, and some discussion ensued. Sam had noticed the wiki at http://reformsociety.com/ a few days earlier, and decided to park this idea there.

Sam made a card for himself, and wrote cards2latex (http://cards.sourceforge.net) to typeset cards neatly.

Two other people from Melbourne LinuxChix?, Jenn and Ricky made cards, which Sam mangled a bit to make them printable. You can see these cards at http://cards.sourceforge.net/cards.pdf

Someone responded to a request on a card, for a fish bowl cleaner!
